Research Questions
1. What does student engagement look like when ICT is used to support learning?
2.
How do educators' perceptions of student engagement change as a result
of involvement in a collaborative project focusing on engagement and
ICT in learning?

Student engagement (behavioural, emotional and cognitive) will be measured at five points in the project: (1) a lesson before the learning initiative is implemented, (2) three lessons during implementation and (3) a lesson in the last week of the implementation.
At each point a measure for each student will be obtained on three types of engagement. For each type of engagement (behavioural, emotional and cognitive) three sources of data recorded on a Likert Scale (1-5) (teacher-reported, pre-service teacher reported and student-reported) will be collected.
(1) BEHAVIOURAL - (i) CONDUCT (e.g., adheres to rules) - teacher-reported; (ii) PARTICIPATION (e.g., fulfills role in 'group' work) - pre-service teacher reported; (iii) WORK INVOLVEMENT (e.g., pays attention to learning) - student-reported
(2) EMOTIONAL - (i) AFFECT (e.g., enthusiasm for ICT) -
teacher-reported; (ii) AFFECT (e.g., - interest in the learning activities) pre-service teacher-reported; (iii)
RELATING TO SCHOOL WORK (e.g., like to use ICT) - student-reported
(3) COGNITIVE - (i) SELF-REGULATION (e.g., transition between activities) - teacher-reported; (ii) INSTRUCTIONAL DISCOURSE (e.g., asks authentic questions) - pre-service teacher-reported; (iii) HIGHER-ORDER THINKING (e.g., synthesis of ideas) - student-reported
For each lesson assessed (i) the teacher will complete, during the lesson, an evaluation sheet with three measures for each student, (ii) the pre-service teacher will complete, during the lesson, an evaluation sheet with three measures for each student, and (iii) the students will complete, at the end of the lesson, a short self-report form on three measures.

Participants (teachers, pre-service teachers and lecturers) will be asked to post to a Group Blog and an Individual Blog.

Data AnalysisThe engagement measures will be analysed using Rasch to combine the 9 measures of engagement for each student to create an overall score of engagement. Only those measures deemed by the Rasch analysis as contributing to the overall level of engagement will be included in the overall score. The scores for each student will be compared across the five different lessons when data was collected during the implementation.
The contributions to the Blogs inform the research process.
