I would encourage both teachers and pre-service teachers to reflect on the implementation of ICT in the classroom and to share their thoughts here.

In the year 5 class, the children are enjoying the activity sequence which has been planned for each week. They are very engaged and as the lessons progress and they know what is expected, they are working more productively. As for the use of technology, Tim decided to change from using video cameras, which would be too time consuming with the editing. He changed it to using digital cameras as these still meet all of the requirements and take a lot less time to edit. The children have responded quite well to the change, although disappointed that there was not enough time to use the video cameras. The students have been quite motivated by the use of this technology and are becoming more engaged on the set task.

I agree that Tim's class has been very engaged (on the two visits I've made). I'll be interested to see the eventual DVDs. At the moment, the novelty of the cameras means that there is a lot of 'look at me' filming rather than filming of the science activities. Or there was - things might have changed. In our group, it is going to be very difficult to separate engagement related to ICT from engagement related to being able to fill balloons with water, make helicopters and paper planes, make rocket-propelled cars, and so on.
