Preparation for Friday and Monday

Hi

At our class held in the Library post trials, you decided that the best way to revise was to go through past papers, which we have been doing. Today, the class decided that they wanted to do more on the knowledge of terms

This is therefore what we will concentrate on for next Friday's double and the following Monday's double

There are two things you need to do, and one you may like to consider to maximise your revision effectiveness

1.
I am expecting that the Board of studies Glossary of terms will be known and will take this as assumed knowledge. If you're rusty on the meanings, go to:
http://www.boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au/syllabus_hsc/glossary_keywords.html
to revise (it's linked off our wiki)

2.
Before Friday, please make sure you have read:

http://teams.as.edu.au/sandbox/groups/12dandt/wiki/2f52e/attachments/6abe8/DandT%20Exam%20Analysis.pdf?sessionID=c089d4675fae42fda98d60815e17efab7a2318fa

This page is one we've looked at before: it lists all the subjects of past papers and gives a good outline of what words and terms specific to D&T that we need to know

and

http://www.hsc.csu.edu.au/design_technology/glossary/2278/index.html

This site goes through some other terms that may be of use

Both the above sites are linked off our wiki and have been referred to previously in class, we're not doing anything new, just revision

Optional
A reminder also that I will be in the IT centre Sunday afternoon from 2pm if you want to go over anything personally. You can also leave scripts for me at the common room and I can mark them

Contact me on my mobile (0429 107 806) or via email if you need time or want to do some individual or group work Sunday afternoon

Thanks
Mr Levins

Thursday, Sept 9 and your MDPs

Hi all

As we proposed, Mr Nexø will take you across to the Trade Training Centre during Thursday's period so that some junior guys can have a look at what you did.

(Mr Scott's Autos class will be there)

At the end of that period, you are welcome to take your project with you if you like, or organise to pick it up later.

I suggest that the period would be best organised by standing by your own project and answering questions/explaining to the year 9's until the class is exhausted.

Then you'll have the opportunity to look at others if you so desire

Thanks
Mr Levins

Question 13 from 2006 paper

The question asks:
"Analyse management strategies used in design and production that you are familiar with"

So let's do this:
Design: research: survey, interview, materials research
Production: action plan, financial plan

Then:
"their relationship to those used in the development of new technologies"

So why do we:
survey: to find out target market's (those affected by emergency) needs
interview: to ask SES/government authorities about deployment: how will they be delivered? What timeframe are they expecting delivery in?
Human/materials research: what fabrics/foodstuffs are appropriate to the specific need? How big are the bugs in the contaminated water so how small does the filter need to be?
action plan: how long will the above take? Do I have the specific manufacturing capabilities/technical knowhow to produce?
financial plan: What is my financial gain? Is it worth it? Will I need upfront capital to invest and have to wait a long time for returns? Are there any government/UN grants I could apply for?

Re: Assessment task 4

Hi all

This assess exercise has traditionally been set to "finish" your folio work (it does double duty, if you like)

I've just changed the dates to this year from last and uploaded this document again

Don't worry if you got it last week or over the weekend as I haven't changed any content—just some date info to make it more accurate

Note that it has a marking guideline attached, reference to how it fits your folio work, and a reference to a text which you can find in the library.
