We Are Australians –
English in Citizenship, Community and Cultural Identity
Ten weeks
What are we trying to achieve?
Students will learn how to use English accurately, effectively and
appropriately in tasks such as applying for passports, filling in electoral
documents, following the procedures of local, state and federal government and
writing letters of opinion on issues of community interest. These tasks will
engage students in a range of meaningful, purposeful and relevant language
experiences.
Students are to identify an individual or family recently arrived in Australia and interview them on the topic “Living in Australia”.
They are to record this interview and submit it an as audio file.
Students will need to reflect on this composition and also document elements of life in Australia that are most important to them.
Prep is an important part of the academic programme at TAS but this course also recognises the needs of the boys enrolled in a School-Based Apprenticeship and how they are often away from school and how their day-to-day life is more interrupted than for their peers. Prep, therefore, is more likely to be extended tasks (rather than something given one day and expected the next) and tailored to each individual’s schedule.
In addition to attending Parent Interviews, you are welcome to contact me at times when you need to give me information relevant to your son’s performance and wellbeing in the English Studies Course – bbuntine@as.edu.au
